Eleven teams for Cecafa U-20 Challenge Cup in Uganda

The Council of East and Central African Football Associations (Cecafa) has today confirmed that 11 teams will take part in the U-20 Cecafa Challenge Cup. Uganda will host the regional tournament in two venues of Pece War Memorial Stadium in Gulu District and the Fufa Technical Centre in Njeru from September 21st to October 5th.

Nicholas Musonye, the Cecafa Secretary General made it clear during a press conference at the Imperial Royal Hotel in Kampala that 11 countries had confirmed and the teams will be grouped in three pools.

Darius Mugoye, the Fufa Vice President and Chairperson CECAFA U-20 Local Organizing Committee (LOC) called upon the local fans to come in big numbers to support the tournament.

“We thank Cecafa for giving us the opportunity to host the tournament. Having been the Champions of the CECAFA U-15 and U-17, we look forward to wining this tournament as we build a strong national team since our dream is to qualify for the FIFA World Cup in Qatar 2022,” added Mugoye.

Group A matches will be hosted in Gulu District, while group B and C are to have their matches played at FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru.

The opening match will be held at Pece War Memorial Stadium in Gulu.

Group A – Uganda, Sudan, Eritrea, Djibouti

Group B –  Kenya, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Zanzibar

Group C –  Burundi, South Sudan, Somalia
