Djibouti Sharks arrive in Uganda ahead of Cecafa U-20 Challenge Cup

The national U-20 team of Djibouti has pitched camp in Gulu District in Uganda ahead of the start of the regional Cecafa U-20 Challenge Cup. Uganda will host the tournament September 21st to October 5th in Pece War Memorial Stadium in Gulu and the Fufa Technical Centre in Njeru.

The Djibouti Sharks arrived in Uganda on Friday before they traveled to Gulu over the weekend. The team will be pooled in Group A along side Sudan, Eritrea and hosts Uganda in Gulu.

Souleiman Hassan Waberi, President of the Djibouti FA told Cecafafootball.com that they decided to send the team early to prepare in Uganda ahead of the tournament.

“We are determined to perform well and our players are very motivated,” added Waberi. Djibouti’s national team last week progressed to the group stage of the FIFA World Cup 2022 qualifiers after ejecting Eswatini.

Other teams are expected to start arriving on Wednesday ahead of the tournament which kicks off with two matches on card on Saturday in Gulu.

Sudan will battle Djibouti in the opening game, while hosts Uganda take on Eritrea in the second Group A game.

This year Cecafa has already organized the Cecafa Kagame Club Championship (Rwanda) and the Cecafa U-15 Challenge Cup in Eritrea last month. The Cecafa Women’s Championship, Cecafa U-17 Women’s Cup and the Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup are also slated to take place this year.
