Djibouti hold AFCON bound Equatorial Guinea in friendly tie
Djibouti national football team held Equatorial Guinea to a 1-1 draw in an international friendly match played at the Malabo Stadium on Tuesday.
The Nzalang Nacional who used the match to prepare ahead of the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) netted first, but Djibouti leveled matters after the interval.
Equatorial Guinea are placed in Group A alongside Nigeria, Guinea-Bissau and hosts Cote d’Ivoire ahead of the AFCON 2023 which kicks off January 13th, 2024.
Souleiman Hassan Waberi, the Djibouti Football federation President thanked the Sharks team for the good performance as they continue preparing for the TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers.
In another international friendly match which also featured a team from the CECAFA Zone, Burundi suffered a 4-0 defeat to another AFCON bound team Algeria.
The 2019 AFCON champions netted through Baghdad Bounedjah, skipper Riyaz Mahrez, Islam Slimani and Mohamed Amoura in a match played in Lome, Togo on Tuesday evening.
