Djibouti earn walk-over Rwanda in WAFCON 2022 qualifiers
The Djibouti women’s senior team have qualified for the second round of the 2022 TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifiers without kicking a ball.
The development comes after their opponents for the first round Rwanda withdrew from the competition.
“Djibouti vs Rwanda canceled due to Rwandan team withdrawal. Djibouti is qualified for the next round,” said the Confederation of African Football.
Tomorrow 21 matches in the qualifiers will be played at different venues with eight teams from the CECAFA region in action.
Ethiopia who will be captained by Loza Abera Geinore will play away to Uganda at the St. Marys Stadium, Kitende, while Eritrea host Burundi. Tanzania fresh from winning the COSAFA Women’s Championship 2021 will host Namibia in Dar es Salaam, while Kenya host South Sudan and Sudan play away to Algeria.
Nigeria, the nine-time Africa Cup of Nations winner are also the defending champions.
