Djibouti, Burundi teams arrive for Cecafa Women’s Challenge Cup

Teams from Djibouti and Burundi have arrived in Dar es salaam, Tanzania ahead of the 2019 Cecafa Senior Women’s Challenge Cup. The regional tournament which brings together the senior women’s national team will take place November 16-25 at the Chamanzi Stadium.

Les Gazelles, Djibouti’s team under the watchful eyes of former French International Sarah M’barek arrived from Morocco where they have been training.

Djibouti will open their Group B campaign with a game against Uganda’s Crested Cranes on November 17th before they take on Kenya two days later. M’Barek’s team will face Ethiopia in their last Group B game on November 21st.

Burundi’s team handled by Daniella Niyibimenya also arrived on Tuesday. The Burundi team will play the opening match of the tournament against Zanzibar on November 16th.

Nicholas Musonye, the Secretary General of the Council of East and Central African Football Associations (Cecafa) said they expect a very competitive tournament. “The women’s teams in the region have greatly improved and this will show by the quality of the tournament,” added Musonye.

The tournament will attract eight teams divided in two groups. Rwanda, Somalia, Eritrea and Sudan are the teams missing out.
