Day 3: Uganda, Tanzania qualify for CAF African Schools Football Championship final
Two teams from the CECAFA Zone have qualified for the finals in different categories at the on-going 2025 CAF African Schools Football Championship in Accra, Ghana.
Uganda’s Girls team saw off Morocco 2-0 in the firsts semi-final. Going into the knock out stage after winning all their three matches in the Group Stage, Uganda scored in each half to see of the North Africans on Friday evening.
Giovanna Aketowanga Sunday scored early in the first half, before Lydia Namaseruka made it 2-0 in the second half.
In the second semi-final match hosts Ghana battled hard to eject reigning champions South Africa 3-2.
In the Boys category reigning champions Tanzania saw off hosts Ghana 1-0 in a semi final match played on Friday. Hamis Saddam netted the lone goal in the first half to silence the home fans.
Tanzania’s Boys team have been unbeaten since the tournament kicked off few days ago starting with a 1-1 draw against Senegal, dream goalless against Cote d’Ivoire, and beat DR Congo 1-0 in their last Group match on Thursday.
Tanzania will now face Senegal in the final on Saturday. The CECAFA Zonal reigning champions Uganda suffered a 5-6 defeat in penalties after the match had ended goalless in normal time.
The first prize is USD 300,000 for the continental champions in both the Boys and Girls categories, while the runners-up receive USD 200,000 and third-placed USD 150,000.
