The CECAFA zonal qualifiers for the CAF Women’s Champions League will kick-off today in the Kenyan capital Nairobi.

Uganda’s Women Premier League champions Lady Doves FC will face FAD FC (Djibouti) in the opening Group A match, while PVP FC (Burundi) take on Tanzania’s Simba Queens in a second game at the Nyayo Stadium.

Fred Musiime, the Lady Doves FC coach told Cecafaonline that it will be very important to start the tournament on a winning note because that will set a good momentum. “We need to treat every game like a final because every team here is strong,” added Musiime.

The experienced Fazila Ikwaput who has played professional football before will be Lady Doves player to watch. The gifted forward was the top scorer in the 2020/2021 Uganda Women’s Premier League.

But the FAD FC team with most of their players fresh from playing in the U-20 FIFA Women’s qualifier against Eritrea are expected to put up a good show against the Lady Doves. The likes of Yousa Awad and Neima Said will be some of the players to watch for FAD FC.

The second game promises to be a thriller although the Simba Queens team that has attracted some of top players in the region are favourites to pick maximum points.

The winner from the CECAFA qualifiers will join the other seven to battle in the 2021 TotalEnergies Women’s Champions League to held in Egypt.

Group A: Lady Doves FC (Uganda), PVP FC (Burundi), Simba Queens (Tanzania), FAD FC (Djibouti)
