CECAFA Women’s Champions League final moved to Kasarani Stadium
The play-off and final of the CECAFA Women’s Champions League will take place at the Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi, Kenya on September 9th.
Originally the matches were meant to take place at the Nyayo Stadium, but the the Confederation of African Football (CAF) gave a go ahead for the change after CECAFA’s request.
The final will see Kenya’s Vihiga Queens FC face Commercial Bank of Ethiopia FC. The earlier play-off tie will see Lady Doves FC (Uganda) battle Simba Queens FC of Tanzania.
The champion will join seven other teams to take part in the inaugural TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Champions League final to take place in Egypt. At the semi final stage Vihiga Queens FC ejected Simba Queens FC 2-1 and Commercial Bank of Ethiopia saw-off Lady Doves FC 5-3 on penalty shoot-outs after a 1-1 draw after full time.
FIFA Secretary General Fatma Samoura and the FIFA’s Chief Women’s Football Officer, Sarai Bareman will also grace the final. Kanizat Ibrahim, CAF’s 5th Vice President and chairperson of the organizing committee for women’s football of CAF is also expected to attend the final.
Yusuf Mossi, the CECAFA Competitions Director told Cecafaonline that the tournament has so far been very successful. “The teams have been very cooperative and the matches have been very competitive,” added Mossi.
The winners will walk away with medals, a trophy and a cash prize of US$30,000, The runners-up will take medals and a cash prize of US$20,000 and the third placed bronze medals and US$10,000.
Her Excellency, Samia Suluhu Hassan, the President of the Republic of Tanzania has supported the competition with a financial boost of US$100,000.
