CECAFA U-20 CHALLENGE CUP: Tanzania dump Uganda Hippos in quarter final
In-form Tanzania are through to the semi finals of the on-going Cecafa U-20 Challenge Cup after seeing off hosts Uganda 4-2 on Sunday at the Pece War Memorial Stadium in Gulu. Andrew Albart Simchimba gave the visitors the lead after 25 minute. But Uganda Hippos leveled matters on return through Abdu Aziz Kayondo after 46 minutes.
But the Tanzanian team continued to dominate the game and netted the second through the same striker Simchimba who took his tally in the tournament to six goals. But Kayondo was also in scoring mood and scored his second of the day for Uganda.
Later a brace by from Kelvin Pius John on the 87th and 90th minutes ensured Tanzania progress to the semi finals.
“I am very happy with the display of my players. They have showed that they can be patience,” said Tanzania’s coach Zeberi Katwila.
Morley Byekwaso, the head coach of Uganda Hippos says his players lacked concentration in the midfield giving room for their opponents to operate freely. Tanzania will now face Sudan in one of the semi final games on Wednesday.
In Njeru Eritrea humbled Zanzibar 5-0 to book a place against Kenya in the semi final.
Cheered on by a big crowd of Eritrean fans from Uganda’s capital Kampala, the Eritrean team dominated play from the start to the end.
Mewal Yosief Tesfai and Ali Suleiman netted a brace each, while Simon Asmelash also got his name on the score sheet too. “We are determined to take the Cup home,” said Eritrea’s coach Efem Alemseged after the match.
