CECAFA U-20 CHALLENGE CUP: Lokale, Tesfai lead top scorers’ chart

Kenya’s Sydney Lokale and Yoseif Mawei Tesfai (Eritrea) are among the leading goal scorers as the regional Cecafa U-20 Challenge Cup heads to the quarter final stage. Lokale who scored all his four goals in the 5-0 win against Zanzibar in the opening match told Cecafaonline that he is determined to score more goals that will help Kenya win the trophy.

“As a striker it is always good to keep scoring. But what will matter most is to score the goals that will help us lift the title,” added the striker.

Eritrea who will face Zanzibar in the quarter finals topped Group A having scored 11 goals and conceded four. But four of their goals have been scored by Tesfai.

Tanzania’s 17-year old Kelvin Pius John who was part of Tanzania’s 2019 U-17 Afcon squad also netted a hat-trick in their last Group B game against Zanzibar to take his tally to four. His teammate Andrew Albart Simchimba has also netted four goals as the team heads to the quarter finals where they face Uganda Hippos.

The players with three goals include Uganda’s Steven Sserwadda, Dani Lual Gumnok (South Sudan) and Kenya’s Austine Otieno Odhiambo.

Eritrea also has two players Robel Michael Teklem and Ali Suleiman Ibrahim with two goals.

A record 56 goals have been scored in the 15 games played in the group stage.

The quarter finals of the FIFA sponsored tournament will take place on Sunday before the semi finals on October 2nd. The play-off for third place and the final will take place on October 5th.
