CECAFA U-20 CHALLENGE CUP: Kelvin Pius John leading chart with seven goals

A record 87 goals have been scored at the on-going Cecafa U-20 Challenge Cup which enters the final stage on October 5th. The tournament which started on September 21st will climax with the play-off between Eritrea and Sudan, while Tanzania will battle Kenya Rising Stars in the final at the Fufa technical Center in Njeru.

Tanzania’s Kelvin Pius John tops the scoring chart with seven goals, while his teammate Andrew Albart Simchimba and Eritrea’s Yoseif Mawel Tesfai have six goals each.

“My target is to win the top scorer’s boot because that will motivate me the more. As a striker scoring goals is very important and I am happy that I have scored some goals that have got us to the finals,” said Kelvin Pius John who was also a star player for Tanzania’s team during the 2019 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) held in Dar es Salaam.

Kenya’s Sydney Lokale who netted all his goals in the 5-0 win over Zanzibar in the group stage has four goals together with Sudan’s duo of Ali Suleiman Ibrahim and Mohamad Abbas Namir.

South Sudan’s Danil Lual Gumnok and Uganda’s Steven Sserwadda whose teams exited the tournament at the quarter final stage have three goals each. Kenya’s Austine Odhiambo Otieno also has three goals.

Nicholas Musonye, the Cecafa Secretary General has said there will be awards for the top scorer, best player, best goalkeeper, Fair play award and the main trophy for the winning team.
