Hosts Uganda and Eritrea settled for a 1-1 draw in the second Group A game played on Saturday at the on-going Cecafa U-20 Challenge Cup. Ivan Bogere gave Uganda Hippos the lead after 37 minutes to send the home fans wild at the Pece War Memorial Stadium in Gulu.

But the Eritrea side stepped up their game after conceding and managed to keep Uganda Hippos at bay.

In the second half Yosief Tesfai Mewael leveled matters for Eritrea after 57 minutes. The Hippos tried to press later to try and get a winning goal, but failed to break the Eritrean defenders.

Uganda’s coach Morley Byekwaso brought in some fresh Sadat Anaku and Steven Sserwadda but to no avail.

“We failed to take our chances today. But we need to improve in the next game,” said Byekwaso after the game. Eritrea’s coach Efrem Alemseghed who also handles the national senior side said he was happy with the draw against the hosts.

At the Fufa Technical Centre Stadium in Njeru South Sudan and Burundi settled for a 3-3 draw.

Striker Dani Lual Gumnok netted a hat-trick for South Sudan, while  Yassin Dushime, Karim Niyonkuru (penalty) and skipper Hamimu Hakizimana scored for Burundi.
