Tanzania’s youngsters were in scoring mood with a 6-0 thrashing of a 10-man South Sudan team in a group A match played on Wednesday in the on-going Cecafa U-15 Challenge Cup in Eritrea.
The Tanzania youngsters started with a high tempo against a very defensive South Sudan team.
But it was South Sudan that made the first attempt with James Kenyi Isaac’s shot blocked for a corner. After several attempts Tanzania scored their first goal through Juma Kiambe Hashimu after 27 minutes.
After 35 minutes the referee awarded a penalty to Tanzania after South Sudan’s Samuel Lahat James fouled Hashimu in the box.
Rabbin Katuli Sanga made no mistake sending the South Sudan goalkeeper David Doul Doluony the wrong side.
After recess Tanzania continued to pile pressure on their opponents before Joseph Gaby Fundumo made it 4-0 after 55 minutes. Later South Sudan’s goalkeeper Doluony was sent off after a rough challenge on a Tanzanian striker after 65 minutes.
Sanga later netted his second goal of the day after 72 minutes, while skipper Juma Chasambi Ladaki scored the sixth.
South Sudan’s coach Simon Albino Ajak complained that his players are tired because they have played three games in few days. “We tried our best, but the boys are tired,” he added.
The Tanzanian coach Swalehe Mwalimu praised his players for the good display. “We played better today and we should have scored more goals. But we shall prepare better for our next matches,” added Mwalimu.
In the second game Rwanda was leading Ethiopia 3-0 at half time.
