Travis Mutyaba made the difference for Uganda as they defeated Tanzania 2-0 in the first Group B match played on Monday at the on-going Cecafa U-15 Challenge Cup in Asmara.

The talented Mutyaba scored in each half at the Asmara National Stadium to make sure Uganda maintain their lead in the Group with six points.

It was Tanzania that created the first opportunity with Rabbin Sanga with goalkeeper to beat after four minutes but he was slow to react before a defender cleared out of danger.

Later Mutyaba had his shot hit the pole before he made it 1-0 after 27 minutes with a well taken curling free kick. Tanzania’s Shafii Hassan also had his shot blocked after 36 minutes.

In the second half the Tanzania team returned with more determination as they pinned the Ugandan team in their half. Daniel Ndalo had his free kick miss by inches for the Tanzania youngsters.

Substitute Daudy Saidy also had another missed chance for Tanzania. But Mutyaba made sure Uganda increased their lead after 79 minutes with a well taken shot that beat Tanzania’s goalkeeper Rashid Miraji.

Tanzania’s coach Swalehe Mwalimu said his team played well but made some few mistakes that cost them. “We shall regroup and plan better for the next game,” added Mwalimu.

Jackson Magera, Uganda’s coach said he changed his tactics because he was aware of Tanzania’s strong points. “Iam happy we won against a very good team,” he added.

The second Group game that starts later will see South Sudan face Ethiopia.
