Cecafa U-15 Challenge Cup giving youngsters good platform – Musonye
The Secretary General of the Council of East and Central African Football (Cecafa), Nicholas Musonye has said the on-going Cecafa U-15 Challenge Cup is a good platform for the youngsters to gain more exposure.
He made it clear that since these youngsters are the stars of tomorrow they need to get exposed to tournaments from an early stage.
“We are happy with the government of Eritrea and the Eritrea National Football Federation for being able to host this tournament and FIFA for supporting,” added Musonye.
Speaking about the level of competition after six games played over three days, Musonye highlighted that it’s very impressive. “The boys are showing good football and learning a lot at an international stage,” he added.
The tournament started with Kenya stopping Somalia 3-1 before Burundi shocked Eritrea 2-1. Day 2 saw Uganda overpower Ethiopia 3-0 and Rwanda defeating South Sudan 3-0 as well. On Sunday Kenya were in scoring form with a 4-0 win over Sudan, before Burundi picked another 2-1 victory over Somalia.
After the withdraw of Djibouti, the tournament has remained with ten teams; Eritrea, Burundi, Kenya, Sudan, Somalia, Uganda, Rwanda, South Sudan, Ethiopia and Tanzania.
