CECAFA teams chase FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup slots
Three teams from the CECAFA region will weekend battle in the third round of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifiers.
Uganda will this afternoon host Ghana at the St. Marys Stadium, Kitende, while Tanzania face Ethiopia at the Amaan Stadium in Zanzibar on Sunday.
Ayub Khalifa Kiyingi, Uganda’s head coach told Cecafaonline that his team has prepared well for the encounter. “We have adequately prepared for the game against Ghana and all players are geared towards our target to win,” he added.
But Ghana’s coach Ben Forkuo has warned that they are here for serious business. “Getting a good result away from home is our target before the return leg,” added Forkuo.
To reach the third round of the qualifiers, Uganda ejected South Africa 1-0 on aggregate, while the Black Princesses of Ghana eliminated Zambia on a 1-0 goal aggregate.
The winner between Uganda and Ghana on aggregate will face either Ethiopia or Tanzania at the final qualifying hurdle.
The other teams still battling in the third round include; Morocco, Senegal, Cameroon and Nigeria.
While Uganda’s team has never played at the World Cup stage, the Ghana Black Princesses have been present at the last five FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cups.
The 2022 World Cup will be hosted in Costa Rica and will begin from August 10 to August 28.
