The President of the Council of East and Central African Football Associations (CECAFA), Wallace Karia is in Younde, Cameroon to attend a meeting on restructuring Africa Zonal Associations. Karia who was elected CECAFA President last month during the General Assembly in Uganda traveled to Cameroon on Monday.

Karia was last December selected to be part of a 5-man committee set-up by FIFA tasked to reform the structure of Africa Zonal Associations.

The Committee to be chaired by CAF President Ahmad Ahmad also has CAF Secretary General, Mouad Hajji, Niger Football Federation president Hamidou Djibrilla and FIFA’s Mario Gallavotti.

Some of the issues the committee is meant to handle include; the way that progress has lagged in the areas of refereeing, coaching and administration, the meagre of a number of competitions organised at Africa Zonal Association level and the shortcomings in their organisation and their limited appeal.

The committee is also meant to discuss how desirable it is to collaborate with FIFA’s regional offices to develop football at regional level, particularly through school and grassroots football and how establishment of disciplinary jurisdictions at Africa Zonal Association level would play an important role.
