The CECAFA Medical and Anti-Doping workshop has opened at the Grand Imperial Hotel in Kampala, Uganda.

Justus Mugisha, the 1st Vice President of the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) officially opened the workshop on Monday.

“It is very important for the medical and anti-doping workshop coming to the CECAFA Zone because this means our players and officials will be sensitized about aspects of doping,” said Mugisha.

The Workshop which runs from December 9-11th, 2024 aims at strengthening anti-doping practices across the CECAFA Zone while aligning with CAF’s initiatives to promote clean and fair Football.

The Workshop facilitated by a CAF delegation of internationally recognized medical doctors from the CAF Medical department led by the CAF Anti-Doping Unit Senior Manager, Sherif Abou El Enein.

Dr. Boubakary Sidiki, the CAF Medical Manager thanked the participants who are attending the Workshop. “For team medical doctors and physicians practicing in sport, there is what is ideal on ground and the reality. Doctors may be deemed to be imposing facts of players’ health to coaches who are dependent on results, however player’s health and fitness is paramount,” added Dr. Sidiki.

The Workshop has attracted participants from Uganda, Burundi, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan and Tanzania.
