Cecafa match officials appointed for U-23 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt
Four match officials from the Council of East and Central African Football Associations (Cecafa) have been appointed to official at the Total U-23 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon). The four match officials including Rwanda’s female referee Salma Mukansanga are among the 12 referees and 13 assistant referee selected by Confederation of African Football (CAF) Referees Committee.
The tournament which will attract eight teams will take place in Cairo, Egypt between November 8-22.
Djibouti’s Souleiman Ahmed Djama, George Gatogato (Burundi) and assistant referee from Uganda Dick Okello are the others appointed from the Cecafa region.
Teams from the Cecafa region failed to qualify for the U-23 tournament which will also be used to determine which three African teams qualify for the 2020 Summer Olympics men’s football tournament in Japan
Defending champions Nigeria, Egypt, Cameroon, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Mali, South Africa and Zambia are the teams that will take part in the U-23 Afcon.
