CAF WOMEN'S CHAMPIONS LEAGUE QUALIFIERS
Commercial Bank of Ethiopia hungry to win Women’s Champions League 2024 slot
Commercial Bank of Ethiopia Women’s Football Club (CBE) have vowed to be at their best when the CAF Women’s Champions League – CECAFA qualifier kicks off on Saturday.
The tournament that will attract nine teams will take place August 17-31st in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa.
After three failed attempts in the previous qualifiers, the CBE head coach Heye Gizaw Birhanu has made it clear that their target this time is qualification for the continental final. “We have tried three times and failed. But we must use the home advantage and also be at our best to try and win the Zonal title and qualify for the CAF Women’s Champions League,” says Birhanu.
The coach says they must take every match like a final because their major target is winning the slot to represent the Zone. “We shall not underrate any teams because we know they are champions from other countries,” added the coach.
In the absence of captain and leading scorer Loza Geinore Abera who is now plying her trade in the US, the Ethiopian giants will have to dig deep and hope that the likes of Aregash Kalsa Tadesse and Nigist Bekele Hailu can carry the team.
Commercial Bank of Ethiopia WFC are placed in Group A alongside Kenya Police Bullets, Yei Joint Stars (South Sudan), Warriors Queens (Zanzibar) and Rwanda’s Rayon Sports WFC.
