Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE) WFC will be all out to make a perfect start as the CAF Women’s Champions League – CECAFA qualifiers kick-off this afternoon in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The Ethiopian giants will face Rayon Sports WFC in a Group A match at the Addis Ababa National Stadium. After the late withdrawal of Zanzibar’s Warrior Queens, the first match will not take place.

After losing in two of the finals of the last three qualifiers, coach Heye Gizaw Birhanu is determined to see his team handle every match like a final as they embark on a tough mission infront of their fans.

“It is always good in tournaments to start with a good win and that is what we shall be targeting,” Birhanu told cecafaonline.

The likes of Aregash Kalsa Tadese, Nardos Getenet Mekonnen and Nigist Bekele Hailu are expected to play pivotal roles for the CBE team, while the foreign imports like Mary Gibi Chavinda (Malawi) and the Kenyan duo of Charity Midewa, Monica Karambu are also expected to play key roles for the Rwanda team.

Action will continue on Sunday with another Group A match as Kenya Police Bullets WFC will take on Yei Joint Stars WFC from South Sudan. The best two teams from each group will qualify for the semi-final stage.

The tournament which has attracted eight teams will now run from August 17-29th, 2024.
