CAF fines Sudan’s Al Hilal after crowd trouble during Champions League tie

The disciplinary committee of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) have fined Sudan’s Premier League side, Al Hilal. The team was fined US$100,000 after their fans invaded the pitch during last weekend during a Total CAF Champions League match in Khartoum.

Al Hilal needed a win against the Egyptian giants Al Ahly to qualify for the quarter finals, but the game ended in a 1-1 draw. Local fans threw chairs and objects on the playing surface during and after the match.

Because of the unbecoming behavior of the Al Hilal fans CAF imposed a US$100,000 fine of which 50,000 USD is suspended on condition that they are not found guilty of a similar offence within one year, Al Hilal ordered to play four (4) CAF Interclub matches behind closed doors and also a 5 match CAF Interclubs ban and a fine of US$10,000 imposed on Al Hilal official Hassan Mohamed.

Al Hilal were the only team in the Council of East and Central African Football (CECAFA) region who qualified to play in the group stage of the 2019-2020 CAF Championships League.
