Teams in the Cecafa region continue to find it difficult to make it to the group stage of the 2019 Total CAF Champions League. On Saturday Tanzania’s Young Africans fell 2-1 away to Zesco United at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Zambia to exit the lucrative tournament on a 3-2 goal aggregate.

Kenyan International Jesse Were gave Zesco the lead after 24 minutes, but Young Africans leveled six minutes Sadney Urikhob.

After 78 minutes Young Africans’ Abdul Aziz Makame turned Quadri Kola’s cross on into his own net. The Tanzania side later had defender Lamine Moro receive his second yellow of the match.

“This was a very tough encounter. But I am happy my boys handled it well and we are through to the group stage,” said Zesco coach George Lwandamina.

Young Africans join Uganda’s KCCA FC who were ejected on Saturday by Angola’s Atletico Petroleos De Luanda. On Sunday’s other representatives from the Cecafa region who will be in action include Gor Mahia FC (Kenya) and Al Hilal of Sudan.
