CAF CHAMPIONS LEAGUE: Uganda Premier League Champions KCCA FC knocked out
Angola’s Atletico Petroleos De Luanda have eliminated Uganda Premier League champions KCCA FC from the CAF Champions League. The visiting team held KCCA FC to a 1-1 draw at the StarTimes Stadium on Friday to advance on an away goal’s rule since the first leg ended goalless.
After several missed chances by the two sides, the visitors were awarded a penalty after 37 minutes that Skipper Ricardo Job Estevao Estevao converted. The referee pointed to the spot after KCCA FC’s goalkeeper Charles Lukwago fouled Isaac Mensah in the box.
In the second half KCCA FC’s Allan Okello and Mike Mutyaba had their attempts parried away by the Angolan goalkeeper.
After 58 minutes a poor clearance by the visiting side gave defender Mustafa Kizza chance to shot the ball into the net. KCCA FC tried to find the winning goal that could take them to the group stage, but failed to beat the Atletico Petroleos De Luanda goalkeeper.
“We did not play well today and am not happy that the boys did not execute,” said KCCA FC’s coach Mike Hillary Mutebi after the game. KCCA FC will now drop to the second Tier the CAF Confederations Cup.
On Saturday Tanzania’s Young Africans will also carry the Cecafa flag when they face Zesco United away in Zambia. Kenya’s Gor Mahia FC will host USM Alger FC (Algeria), while Sudan’s Al-Hilal take on Enyimba FC (Nigeria) in the other game.
