Cecafa representatives in the group stage of the Total CAF Champions League Simba SC and El Merreikh picked mixed results in Group A matches played on Tuesday.

Tanzanian giants Simba SC defeated Egyptian and African reigning champions Al Ahly (Egypt) 1-0 in a game played at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam.

Luis Miquissone well struck first half goal was enough to give Simba maximum points to take them top of Group A. Al Ahly tried to fight back to score goals, but found a well organized Simba SC defence marshaled by Kenyan International Joash Achieng Onyango and Pascal Wawa.

“We prepared well for them and I am happy the boys did the job and got a win to pick three points,” said Simba SC’s head coach Didier Gomes.

In another Group A match played in Khartoum, hosts El Merreikh fell 4-1 to visiting DR Congo side AS Vita. Obed Mayamba Mukokiani scored a goal in either half, while Djuma Shabani and Amede Masasi netted the other goals for AS Vita. Elsamani Saadeldin scored the lone goal for the Sudan Premier League champions El Merrieikh.
