CAF Champions League: Atlabara FC out, KCCA win
It was a day of mixed fortunes for Council of East and Central African Football Associations (Cecafa) representatives in the CAF Champions League on Friday. South Sudan’s Atlabara FC lost 9-0 to African giants Al Ahly of Egypt, while Uganda Premier League champions KCCA FC defeated visiting Africa Stars FC (Namibia) 2-0 to qualify for the first round of the lucrative competition.
At the Alexandria based Borg El Arab Stadium Hussein Elshahat netted a hat-trick, while Salah Mohsen and Hamdy Fathy picked a brace for the Red Devils of Al Ahly. Ahmed Fathy netted the other goal before another own goal by Atlabara’s Mustafa Selim.
Al Ahly qualified on a 13-0 goal aggregate and will face the winner between Equatorial Guinea’s Cano Sport and Ethiopia’s Mekelle.
In Kampala coach Mike Hillary Mutebi’s KCCA FC overturned a first leg 3-2 defeat to win 2-0. Mustafa Kizza and Allan Okello scored late to ensure the Ugandan giants progress to the next stage.
The other Cecafa representatives who will be in CAF Champions League action on Saturday include El Merreikh (Sudan) taking on JS Kabylie (Algeria), while Zamalek (Egypt) hosts Somalia’s Dekadaha FC. Young Africans FC from Tanzania will also play away to Township Rollers FC (Botswana), while KMKM FC (Zanzibar) take on Angola’s Primeiro de Agosto.
