Burundi’s Berahino joins Belgium’s Zulte Waregem

Burundian striker Saido Berahino has finally transferred to top Belgian top flight side Zulte Waregem.

Berahino who was part of Burundi’s team at the 2019 Total Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt has signed a two-year deal, with the option of a third.

“I have regained my confidence and my pleasure in football,” he said.

Berahino, 26, left Stoke City in England “by mutual agreement” last week after scoring just five goals since joining the Championship side in January 2017.

The striker joined West Bromwich Albion at the age of 11 and turned professional seven years later.

He represented England at all youth levels from under-16 to under-21, and was part of their under-17 team which won the 2010 European Championship.

He was called up for the first time to the senior team in November 2014 but did not play. He switched his international allegiance to Burundi in August 2018 and scored on his international debut in September.
