Burundi’s Bangurambona selected to officiate at FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup
The World Football body, FIFA has selected Burundi’s Fides Bangurambona as one of the assistant referees who will officiate at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup 2024.
Twenty-four teams will battle in the competition slated to take place August 31st to September 22nd in Colombia.
The list of match officials released few days ago has two African referees and four assistant referees, with one selected as a support referee.
Egypt’s Saad Ali Elmaghrabi Shahenda and Konan Akiss from Ivory Coast, assistant referees Atezambong Fomo Carine (Cameroon), Bangurambona Fides (Burundi), Hamdi Soukaina (Morocco), and Ouahab Asma Feriel (Algeria), and Togolese referee Amedome Vincentia listed as a support referee are the officials selected from Africa.
FIFA Referees Committee chairman Pierluigi Collina revealed that the tournament will be used to assess referees who will take up the challenge at the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
“The FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup is the next important milestone in preparing the potential candidates for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Brazil 2027. The tournament will also give us a great opportunity to further trial football video support following the promising tests conducted during the Blue Stars tournament,” said Collina.
The four African teams that qualified for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup include; Cameroon, Ghana, Morocco and Nigeria.
