Burundi set to test 2019 AFCON winners Algeria in friendly match
The Swallows of Burundi will face Algeria in an international friendly match on January 9th, 2024.
Burundi Football Federation confirmed that the match will be played in Lome, Togo. The Algerian team will also be camped in Togo for few days ahead of the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023.
Algeria, the 2019 AFCON winners are placed in Group D alongside Burkina Faso, Mauritania and Angola for Africa’s biggest football showpiece AFCON which will take place in Cote d’Ivoire between January 13th to February 11th, 2024.
Etienne Ndayiragije, the Burundi national coach has already invited a squad including Abedi Bigirimana, Fiston Abdourazak and Yannick Nkurunziza among others that will embark on preparations ahead of the international friendly match.
Tanzania are the only team from the CECAFA Zone that will play at the AFCON 2023. The Taifa Stars are expected to camp in Egypt before traveling to Cote d’Ivoire for their opening match on January 17th against Morocco.
