Burundi to host Indomitable Lions of Cameroon in Dar es Salaam
The Swallows of Burundi will host Cameroon in a Group C match of the TotalEnergies Africa Cup (AFCON) 2023 qualifier at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
Alexandre Muyenge, President of the Burundi Football Federation confirmed to Cecafaonline.com that they will use the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium as their home ground.
“Since none of our Stadiums has been approved by CAF, we have decided to use the Stadium in Tanzania as a home ground for our matches in the AFCON 2023 qualifiers,” said Muyenge.
After playing their first match in Group C a way to Namibia on June 4th, The Swallows will host the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon four days later in Dar es Salaam.
The other CECAFA members who will not use their home Stadiums because they were not cleared by CAF include; South Sudan and Ethiopia.
South Sudan will use the St. Marys Stadium Kitende in Uganda as their home ground, while the Ethiopia Football Federation (EFF) General Secretary, Bahiru Tilahun Limenih has said they will play the home games in either Malawi or South Africa. The Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA) are also awaiting approval of a Stadium by CAF.
The CECAFA teams that will battle in the AFCON 2023 qualifiers include; Sudan, Ethiopia, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, South Sudan, Kenya and Tanzania.
