Burundi to face Djibouti in CECAFA Senior Women’s Championship opening match

Burundi will kick-start the CECAFA Senior Women’s Championship 2022 with a Group A match against Djibouti on June 1st, 2022.

The regional tournament will take place at the FUFA technical Centre in Njeru from June 1-11th.

Yussuf Mossi, the CECAFA Competitions Director says group matches will climax on June 6th before the knock out stage. “With eight teams we expect to have a very competitive Championship,” added Mossi.

Uganda Crested Cranes will also play their first  Group A match on June 1st against Rwanda. Group B matches will take centre stage on June 2nd with Zanzibar facing Ethiopia in the first match, before Tanzania battle South Sudan.

Mossi says the Championship will help Uganda and Burundi prepare better ahead of the TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations to take place in Morocco in July, 2022.

The semi finals of the regional Championship will be played on June 9th and the play-off for third place and final on June 11th.

Group A: Uganda, Burundi, Rwanda, Djibouti

Group B: Tanzania, Zanzibar, South Sudan, Ethiopia
