The Swallows of Burundi will take to the field this evening against Botswana in their first Group C match in the TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) 2022 at the Stade Moulay Hassan, Rabat in Morocco.

Gustave Niyonkuru, Burundi’s head coach told Cecafaonline.com that they are going all out to try and get a good start. “We know what to expect and the players are determined to go all out and work hard for a win,” says Niyonkuru.

The coach made it clear that they must play as a team and defend well, but also take their chances infront of goal. “This is a tournament where a team must utilize the chances created infront of goal,” added the Burundi coach.

Burundi will look to some of the stars like Sandrine Niyonkuru, Djafari Asha and professional players Falone Nahimana (England), Cheila Ineza and Salha Nduwayo (Sweden).

The Zebras of Botswana will look to some of their key players like Maitumelo Sedilame Bosija who features for Mamelodi Sundowns Women’s team in South Africa and skipper Refilwe Tebogo Tholakele.

On Sunday CECAFA’s second representatives Uganda Crested Cranes suffered a 2-0 defeat to Senegal in a Group A match played in Rabat.

In the recent CECAFA Senior Women’s Championship held in Njeru, Uganda, the Uganda Crested Cranes emerged champions, while Burundi finished second.
