Ndayishimiye scores a brace as Burundi stop Liberia in Antalya

A 10-man Burundi national team has defeated Liberia 2-1 in an international friendly match played today in Antalya, Turkey.

Bonfils Bimenyimana netted a first half brace, before Divine Teah pulled one back for Liberia at the Ardan Stadium.

In the second half Burundi’s Youssouf Ndayishimiye was sent off for a bad foul. Liberia tried to use the advantage after Ndayishimiye’s send off, but the Burundi players defended in numbers.

Jimmy Ndayizeye, Burundi’s head coach said he was happy with the way his players approached the match. “They made use of the opportunities created. We need to keep working hard,” added Ndayizeye.

Few days ago The Swallows of Burundi lost 1-0 to Bahrain.

Burundi are using the friendly matches to prepare the team ahead of qualifiers for the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023 and TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2023.
