Burundi open against Tanzania in CECAFA U-18 Women’s tourney

The CECAFA U-18 Women’s Championship finally kicks off this afternoon at the Azam Complex, Chamazi in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

Burundi will face hosts Tanzania in the opening match, and later Ethiopia will battle Uganda at the same venue.

The season opening tournament for the Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) has attracted five teams that will play on a round robin basis. The competition will climax on August 4th, 2023.

Kenya was meant to host the Championship last month, but it was postponed because of a delay in funding. Later Kenya and Rwanda withdrew from taking part.

Yusuf Mossi, the CECAFA Competitions Director said this competition has been organised in search away that each team plays four matches. « It is important that the youngsters play as many matches as possible to get more exposure, » he added.

After the CECAFA U-18 Women’s Championship, the Zonal CAF Women’s Champions League qualifier will take place in Uganda from August 12-30th, 2023.
