Burundi’s head coach Gustave Niyonkuru has included Switzerland based defender Saffira Guinand on the squad ahead of the TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) 2022.

Guinand features for FC Yverdon in Switzerland.

“We have decided to beef-up the squad by including Guinand and two other players from Sweden. We are confident of putting up a good show during the tournament,” says Niyonkuru.

Morocco will host the WAFCON 2022 from July 2-23 in Casablanca and Rabat.

The Swallows of Burundi are placed in Group C alongside Botswana, South Africa and record winners Nigeria.

Burundi will open their campaign against Botswana on July 4th at the Stade Moulay Hassan, Rabat. They will face South Africa in their second group match on July 7th and complete with a match against Nigeria three days later.

Uganda Crested Cranes are the second team from the CECAFA region that will battle in the WAFCON 2022.
