The Swallows of Burundi return to action this evening with a Group C match against South Africa at the on-going TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of nations (WAFCON) 2022.

After losing their opening match 4-2 to Botswana, the CECAFA representatives are determined to come all out at the Stade Moulay Hassan in Rabat to try and pick their first points in the tournament.

Gustave Niyonkuru, the Burundi head coach told Cecafaonline.com that they know what to expect against South Africa and will go all out to put up a good show. “We know South Africa is a good side, but we also know that we are capable of getting a good result against them,” said Niyonkuru.

The coach made it clear that his defenders made some mistakes in their defeat to Botswana, but added that they have corrected mistakes in the team and should be able to play well.

The Burundi team will look to Sandrine Niyonkuru who netted a brace against Botswana to bang in more goals in the tournament.

But South Africa’s head coach Desiree Ellis made it clear that although they are motivated by their 2-1 win against Nigeria in the opening match, they are determined to continue working hard and get more wins.

“We cannot underrate the Burundi team because they are a good team with talented players and will be out to try and prove a point,” added Ellis.

Later Botswana will battle the nine time African champions Nigeria in the second Group C match on card.
