The Swallows of Burundi will tonight play nine time African champions Nigeria in their last Group C match at the on-going TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) 2022.

After losing their two matches to Botswana and South Africa, coach Gustave Niyonkuru has said they will go all out to try and prove a point at the Stade Moulay Hassan in Rabat.

“It is not going to be an easy match because we are facing a very experienced side. But we want to make sure we go all out and play a good match and score some goals like we have done in our other two matches,” added Niyonkuru.

The coach made it clear that although they are not scared of facing the star studded Nigerian team, facing them will give his players good exposure. “My players are actually looking forward to facing the Nigerian team,” he added.

Although the Swallows have lost their earlier two matches, they have scored in each of them. Burundi started their campaign with a 4-2 defeat to Botswana, before falling 3-1 to South Africa.

Uganda Crested Cranes, the second team from the CECAFA region also completed their matches in Group A picking only a 2-2 draw against Burkina Faso. They lost 2-0 to Senegal and fell 3-1 to hosts Morocco.
