Biashara Utd, Gor Mahia win TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup ties
Tanzania Premier League side, Biashara United and Gor Mahia FC (Kenya) have today picked wins in their first leg matches of the 2nd preliminary round of the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup.
Biashara United defeated Libya’s Al Ahly Tripoli 2-0 in a match played at the Benjamin Nkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
Deogratius Mafie gave Biashara Utd the lead after 39 minutes, before Green Atupele made it 2-0 after 60 minutes.
Kenyan side Gor Mahia FC also picked a vital 3-1 win away to Sudan’s Al Ahly Merowe. The match was played at the Suez Stadium in Egypt because stadium in Sudan have not been cleared by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
Al Ahly Morowe took a 41st minute lead before Gor Mahia FC returned after the break to score through Samuel Onyango, Benson Omalla and Jules Ulimwengu.
On Saturday the two other teams from the CECAFA region will also be in action.
Tanzanian side Azam FC will host Pyramids FC (Egypt), while Uganda Revenue Authority FC also play host to another Egyptian side Al Masry at the St. Marys Stadium, Kitende. On Sunday As Kigali (Rwanda) will host DC Motema Pembe (DR Congo).
The aggregate winner of the two-legged tie moves to the second round of the group stage qualifiers where they will be paired against teams dropping from the Champions League first round.
