Benin stand in Tanzania’s way as CAF African Schools Football Championship gets to semis
Tanzania have booked a place at the semi final stage of the on-going CAF Schools Football Championship in Zanzibar.
After kicking off with a goalless draw against Senegal on Tuesday, the Tanzanian team picked a hard earned 1-0 win against arch-rivals Uganda to book a place in the semi finals after topping Group A with 4 points.
The Ugandan team who lifted the trophy during the Zonal qualifiers returned eager to pick a win against Senegal to sail through, but only managed a goalless draw. The West African team qualified for the semi final where they will face Guinea.
Guinea topped their Group B after defeating Benin 2-1, on Day 1, stopped South Africa 1-0 and finished it off in style with a convincing 3-0 win against Libya.
Elieneza Nicolaus Nsanganzelu, the Tanzania Boys team coach said that they are happy to get to the semi final stage. ” We know it will not be an easy match, but we are motivated to give our best, ” added the coach.
USD 300 000 prize money awaits the champion, while the runners-up will receive USD 200 000, while the bronze medalists bag USD 150 000, courtesy of CAF’s partnership with the Motsepe Foundation.
