Azam FC to face Mlandege in Mapinduzi Cup kick-off
Tanzania Premier League side Azam FC will face 2023 winners Mlandege FC (Zanzibar) as the Mapinduzi Cup kicks-off in Zanzibar on December 28th, 2023.
The competition organised by the government of Zanzibar together with the Zanzibar Football Federation (ZFF) will take place December 28th to January 13, 2024 at the refurbished Amaan Stadium.
Azam FC who are placed in Group A will be chasing a sixth Mapinduzi Cup title, while Simba Sc have won it three times. Young Africans SC and Mtibwa Sugar FC have lifted the Cup two teams each, while KCCA FC and Ugada Revenue Authority FC are the only foreign sides to win the Mapinduzi Cup in 2014 and 2016 respectively.
Mbarouk Uthman, the chairman of the Mapinduzi Cup organising Committee told Cecafaonline that they expect the Mapinduzi Cup to be very competitive with the foreign sides APR FC from Rwanda, Burundi’s Vital’O FC and Jamus FC (South Sudan) spicing it up.
Burundi’s Vital’O FC will also be in action in a Group A tie on the first day against Chipukizi United. Local side KVZ FC who replaced Uganda Revenue Authority FC will take on Jamhuri SC, while JKU SC battle Singida Big Stars FC on Friday.
Tanzania Premier League reigning champions Young Africans SC will play their opening Group C match against Jamhuri SC on December 31st, while Simba SC will take on JKU SC on January 1st, 2024
But before the Mapinduzi Cup, the official opening of the Amaan Stadium will take place today with an international match between Zanzibar Heroes and Kilimanjaro Stars.
Group A : Azam FC, Vital’O FC, Chipukizi Utd, Mlandege FC
Group B : Simba SC, JKU SC, APR SC, Singida Big Stars FC
Group C : Young Africans SC, Jamhuri SC, Jamus FC, KVZ FC
