AS Kigali, Fasil Kenema out of Confederation Cup

Five teams from the CECAFA region have been eliminated in the second preliminary round of the 2022/2023 TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup.

After a goalless draw in the first leg, Ethiopia’s Fasil Kenema fell to CS Sfaxien 1-0 in the second leg match played at the Stade Taieb Mhiri Sfax in Tunisia.

Sudan’s Hilal Alsahil also suffered a 7-0 away defeat to Pyramids in a match played at the 30 June Stadium in Cairo. Islam Issa was sent off for the Egyptian Premier League side.

On Sunday Rwanda’s AS Kigali lost 1-0 away to Al Nasr (Libya) in a second leg match played at the Martyrs of February Stadium in Benghazi. The two teams had settled for a goalless draw in the first leg play at the Huye Stadium in Rwanda. Zanzibar’s Kipanga SC also suffered a 7-0 defeat away to Club Africain (Tunisia) to bow out on a 7-0 goal aggregate..

Tanzania Premier League side Azam FC also bowed out on a 2-3 goal aggregate. After losing the first leg 3-0 away to Libya’s Al Akhder, Azam FC won the return leg 2-0 with Idris Mbombo netting a brace.
