The Harambee Stars of Kenya face arch-rivals Uganda Cranes this afternoon in a Group E match of the FIFA World Cup qualifier at the Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi.

In their last meeting which was a friendly match played in September, 2019, the two teams settled for a 1-1 draw.

But although Uganda boost of a better head to head to their rivals Kenya, the Harambee Stars head coach Jacob ‘Ghost’ Mulee says this is the time they must start on a winning note to write their own history.

“It is always tough to play Uganda. But we must make sure we play a good game and start with maximum points because this is a world Cup qualifier. They have a better head to head record against us, but we must start and write our own history,” added Mulee.

Kenyan skipper Michael Olunga Ogada who plies his trade Qatari club Al-Duhail says it is always a honour to represent the nation. “All the players are motivated to go and play a good game to get a good result,” added Olunga.

Milutin ‘Micho’ Stedojevic, the Ugandan coach who returned to the position last month after he stepped down in 2017 says always facing Kenya is no easy task. “Matches between the two sides is always touh and this match will be decided by small details. Although this team is in transition with some senior players retired, they are determined to get a good result,” added Sredojevic.

Mali went top of Group E last night after a 1-0 win against Rwanda in a match played at the Grand Stade d’Agadir in Morocco.

Three other teams from the CECAFA region will also be in action today in FIFA World Cup 2022 qualifiers. Djibouti will play away to African champions Algeria in a Group A match, while Tanzania battle DR Congo in Lubumbashi in a Group J encounter. Sudan who qualified for the 2021 AFCON will play away to Morocco in Group I.
