All set for CECAFA Senior Women’s Championship 2022 in Uganda

The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) is ready to host a successful CECAFA Senior Women’s Championship 2022, the 3rd Vice President, Florence Nakiwala Kiyingi has said.

Uganda will host the regional tournament at the FUFA technical Center in Njeru between June 1-11th, 2022.

During a press Conference held at the FUFA headquarters in Mengo on Wednesday, Kiyingi who is also the Chairperson Local organizing committee made it clear that they are ready to host a good tournament.

“FUFA is proud to host yet another Championship and we would like to express our readiness in welcoming the rest of the teams that have confirmed participation. As the local organizing committee, we have everything set and cannot wait to get the tournament underway,” added Kiyingi.

She also made it clear that fans will be allowed to access the Stadium and watch the matches at no cost. “All matches will be live on FUFA TV,” added Kiyingi.

The tournament will attract eight teams with each playing three matches in the group stage before the semi-final stage.

The CECAFA Media Manager, Andrew Jackson Oryada also called upon the media in the region to give the tournament wide coverage that it deserves. “ We need to work together as a team to make sure that we to give this Championship mileage,” added Oryada.

Action will start with Burundi facing Djibouti, before hosts Uganda battle Rwanda in the second match to be played on June 1st.

The Kenyan team that lifted the title when the tournament was last held in 2019 will not feature in the Championship because FIFA is yet to lift the suspension on the Football Kenya Federation (FKF).

Group A: Uganda, Burundi, Rwanda, Djibouti

Group B: Tanzania, Zanzibar, South Sudan, Ethiopia
