Al Ahly defeat Sudan’s Al Hilal in Total CAF Champions League

Sudan’s Al Hilal suffered a 2-1 defeat to giants Al Ahly away in Cairo, Egypt on Friday night in a Total CAF Champions League Group B tie. The home side piled a lot of pressure from the start of the game and scored after 15 minutes.

Hussein El-Shahat finished off a well placed pass by Mohamed Magdy. The striker gave Al Hilal’s Ugandan goalkeeper Jamal Salim Magoola no chance.

Magoola was called in to save yet another attack after 25 minutes when he collected Mohamed Magdy’s shot at goal.

The referee pointed to the spot after 36 minutes after Al Ahly’s Junior Ajayi was brought down in the box. Ramadan Sobhi netted from the spot make it 2-0.

In the second half the home side continued to attack in numbers as Al Hilal relied more on counter attacks.

Nigerian import Ajayi later wasted a glorious chance to extend Al Ahly’s lead after 85 minutes. In added time Al Hilal pulled a goal back through Athar El-taher from close range.

Étoile du Sahel of Tunisia top the group, whole Al Hilal are second and Al Ahly third. FC Platinum who lost their opening game 3-0 to Al Hilal are bottom of the group.

Al Hilal are the only team in the Council of East and Central African Football Associations (CECAFA) region who qualified to play in the group stage of the Total CAF Champions League.
