AFCON 2023: Tanzanian coach Amrouche calls for good preparations
The head coach of Tanzania, Adel Amrouche has called for good and early preparations ahead of the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023.
Taifa Stars qualified for Africa’s biggest football competition a few days ago after holding hosts Algeria to a goalless draw in the town of Annaba.
Tanzania are the only team from the Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) Zone who will play at the AFCON 2023 to take place in five host cities in Cote d’Ivoire from 13th January to 11th February 2024.
Amrouche has made it clear that it has taken hard work to qualify for the AFCON 2023, but it will also require very good preparations that need to start early. ” We have a lot of work to do interms of preparing the team to be very ready for the tournament in Cote d’Ivoire, ” added the coach.
” I thank the government of Tanzania, the Tanzania Football Federation and the sponsors for the efforts put in during the qualification campaign. But now we need to start thinking of good preparations with perhaps a camp and some build-ups, ” added Amrouche. In their last appearance in the AFCON 2019 held in Egypt, Taifa Stars failed to make it out of the group stage.
On Tuesday another team from the CECAFA Zone failed to book a place in the AFCON 2023 when they lost their last group match 3-0 away to Cameroon. The Swallows needed a win to book a place in the competition that will bring together 24 teams.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has already announced that the draw for the AFCON 2023 will be held on October 12th, 2023 in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire.
Eight time AFCON winners Egypt together with 2022 FIFA World Cup semi finalists Morocco and reigning champions Senegal and Nigeria will be some of the teams to watch at the competition.
The other teams that have qualified for the AFCON 2023 include; Cote d’Ivoire (hosts), Algeria, Angola, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Cape Verde, DR Congo, Equatorial Guinea, The Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Mali, Mauritania, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Tanzania, Tunisia and Zambia.
