TotalEnergies AFCON 2021: Sudan head coach Velud not worried of group

The head coach of Sudan’s national team, Hubert Velud has said he is not worried of the teams they have been pitted against ahead of the 2021 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Sudan was placed in Group D alongside Nigeria, Egyyt and Guinea Bissau where the draw was conducted on Tuesday in Yaounde, Cameroon.

The tournament, Africa’s biggest football showpiece will take place from January 9th to February 6th, 2022.

“We are not worried about any of the teams we have been placed against in the group. We are also a big team and no team that has qualified for AFCON is weak,” said Velud.

The French coach who has also guided Sudan to qualification for the group stage of the 2021 FIFA Arab Cup said they will need to prepare really well for the competition. “With good preparations we shall be very ready for the AFCON,” added the coach.

Sudan will open their campaign with a game against Burkina Faso on January 11th, 2022 at the Raoumde Adjia Stadium in Garoua. Sudan will later face Nigeria on January 15th before winding up the group game against Egypt on January 19th.
