Abera, Zeleke shine as Ethiopia humble Zanzibar

Ethiopia have gone top of Group B at the on-going regional CECAFA Senior Women’s Championship after a 5-0 win against Zanzibar in a match played on Thursday.

The Ethiopian team took a 2-0 half time lead in a match played at the FUFA technical Centre in Njeru. Aregash Kalsa Tadesse and skipper Geinore Loza Abera netted the goals for Ethiopia.

In the second half Abera scored her second goal before Daniel Kidist Zeleke also scored a brace for Ethiopia.

Zanzibar’s goalkeeper Zuwena Yassin made several saves to deny Ethiopia more goals.

“This has been a good start and I hope my players will go all out and employ the same attitude in the next match,” said Ethiopia’s head coach Firew Hailegebral Asera.

In the second Group B match Tanzania defeated South Sudan  2-0 with  Amina Bilali and Diana Lucas Msewa scoring the goals.

Action returns on Friday with Uganda Crested Cranes facing Djibouti, and Rwanda taking on arch-rivals Burundi in Group A matches.
