The inaugural CAF African Schools Football Championship will finally take place in Durban, South Africa.

CAF has today announced that the continental final phase of the competition will take place April 5-8th, 2023 at King Zwelithini Stadium.

The continental tournament is expected to attract 44,000 boys and girls from 41 African countries under the aged of 15 from all the six Zones.

CAF General Secretary, Véron Mosengo-Omba says the CAF Africa Schools Football Championship is very important to CAF, to Africa and the CAF President, Dr. Patrice Motsepe. “For the first time, CAF is not just talking about developing the youth, but we are investing in a tangible way to the future of Africa. We are giving hope, we are giving a platform,” added the CAF General Secretary.

The Motsepe Foundation donated US$10 million towards the CAF Schools Football Championship. After bagging cash prizes at the Zonal qualifiers there will also be cash prizes at the final phase of the Championship. The winners in both boys and girls will each take US$300,000, the runners up will each take US$200,000 and the third placed in each of the categories will bag US$150,000. The cash prizes are however tagged on a development project in the respective schools.
