Somalia’s national football team has been ejected from the 2021 FIFA Arab Cup.

Oman stopped Somalia 2-1 in a preliminary match of the competition played last night at the Bin Hammd Stadium in Qatar.

Mohsen Al-Ghasani gave Oman the lead after 11 minutes. Salaah Al Yahyaei later converted a penalty to make it 2-0 for Oman after 36 minutes. The Somali goalkeeper Mustaf Maxamed Yuusuf had again pulled down Muhsen Al Ghassani in the box.

In the second half Abel Gigli pulled one back for Somalia with a well timed header to make it 2-1.

The two teams continued to create more scoring opportunities, but Oman managed to hold on to the win. Oman now join Qatar, Iraq and winner between Bahrain and Kuwait in Group A for the final tournament slated for November 30th to December 18th.

On Saturday Sudan ejected Libya 1-0 in the first match of the preliminary round.

Today South Sudan are expected to face Jordan in the third match of the competition. However, nine South Sudan players tested positive for COVID-19 on Saturday and will miss the match.
