2021 AFCON QUALIFIER: Sudan coach invites AS Bastia’s Taifour ahead of Ghana tie

Sudan’s head coach Hubert Velud has invited a 26-man squad ahead of a 2021 Total Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against the Black Stars of Ghana. The new coach has included Italian based defensive midfielder Ammar Taifour who features for AS Bastia.

It is however not clear if the player will be able to travel for the game since Italy is one of the highly hit nations by the Corona Virus (COVID -19) leading to the suspension of the football Leagues.

Sudan are meant to face Ghana away in a Group C match at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium, Cape Coast on March 28th before the return leg in Khartoum on March 31st.

The new French born coach replaced Zdravko Logarusic in January 2020. He will be leading the Falcons of Jediane in his first game with the team in third place in Group C.

Besides Taifour, the new coach also invited three other foreign based players Muhammad Abdulrahman (CA Bordj Bou Arréridj, Algeria), Yassin Hamed (Miercurea Ciuc, Romania) and Sharaf Eldin Shiboub (Simba SC, Tanzania).

The coach also invited eight players from top side Al Hilal Omdurman and seven from Al Merreikh SC.

Sudan started their campaign with a 4-0 win against São Tomé and Príncipe before falling 1-0 away to South Africa. Ghana who have won their two games are top of the Group with six points.
